Our Story

The Turner Practice was founded in 2019 with a clear purpose: to expand access to meaningful mental health support for athletes and young people navigating high-pressure environments.

In the wake of the loss of young athletes in South Central Los Angeles, the work began with a commitment to create spaces where mental health could be addressed with both clinical depth and cultural awareness. What began as a focused response to an immediate need has grown into a practice supporting athletes, teams, and high performers across multiple states.

At its core, The Turner Practice is built on the understanding that performance and well-being are inseparable. Athletes are asked to carry not only the demands of competition, but also the weight of identity, transition, and the broader environments in which they live and train.

The work continues to integrate therapy, mindfulness, and mental performance coaching, offering support that is both grounded and applicable. The commitment remains the same: to create spaces where individuals can build resilience, develop clarity, and move forward in a way that is sustainable and aligned with who they are.

Our Commitment to Social Justice

Mental health does not exist in isolation. It is shaped by the systems and environments in which people live, train, and perform.

At The Turner Practice, we recognize that systemic inequities, racial trauma, and community violence have a direct impact on well-being. Our work is grounded in understanding these realities and providing care that is both clinically sound and responsive to lived experience.

Athletes often navigate the intersection of performance, identity, and public visibility. They are asked to perform at the highest levels while carrying pressures that extend beyond sport.

We support athletes in caring for their mental health while building resilience, focus, and clarity. Our work creates space to process experiences, strengthen well-being, and move forward in a way that is sustainable and aligned.

Our commitment is to expand access to care while supporting individuals and communities who have been marginalized or underserved.

We provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive support that affirms the dignity and humanity of every client. Through therapy, advocacy, and education, we work to support healing, growth, and meaningful change.
