Commitment to Social Justice

At The Turner Practice, we believe mental health care must also serve as a vehicle for equity and justice. Our commitment to social justice is rooted in the understanding that mental health does not exist in isolation—it is impacted by systemic inequities, racial trauma, and community violence. We stand with individuals and communities who have been silenced, criminalized, or marginalized, and we provide care that validates their lived experiences.

As part of this mission, we extend our services to forensic clients, including those impacted by police brutality and racial injustice. We recognize the profound psychological toll that encounters with law enforcement and systemic racism can create, and we are committed to helping survivors and their families navigate the healing process. Our clinicians provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive care to ensure that clients are not only supported clinically but also affirmed in their humanity.

Through therapy, advocacy, and education, we aim to dismantle barriers to wellness while uplifting the voices of those most affected by injustice. Our practice is not only a place for healing—it is also a space for empowerment and change.

Social Justice & Athletes

Athletes, particularly athletes of color, often stand at the crossroads of sport, identity, and activism. At The Turner Practice, we recognize the unique role athletes play as leaders in shaping conversations around social justice. Too often, they are asked to perform at the highest levels while carrying the weight of systemic oppression, racial trauma, and community expectations.

We collaborate with athletes to ensure their mental health is prioritized while also supporting their voices in advocacy and activism. Our approach combines mental performance coaching, therapy, and social justice frameworks—helping athletes manage the pressures of competition, the emotional impact of activism, and the demands of navigating systems that were not built with them in mind.

By providing a safe, culturally responsive space, we help athletes process experiences of discrimination, heal from trauma, and channel their strength into both their performance and their advocacy. Whether on the court, the field, or the community stage, we empower athletes to thrive while using their platforms to create meaningful change.
